As A Blogger, What Does Money Mean To You?

There’s a trend going on right now in the blogosphere with the “ask me a question” widget. I thought you might be a lot more interested to see what other bloggers have to say, instead of me answering questions. So here’s the “Ask The Web” category.
As this is a blog about money education, the questions will be focused on that, but from time to time it might be fun to ask the bloggers a different question, like “what would you bring with you on a deserted island?”.
You are invited to participate, asking questions in the comments section, and the most interesting/popular one will get a post with a link and, of course, answers from different bloggers.
Today’s question is “As a blogger, what does money mean to you?”. Now let’s see the answers, 3 brave bloggers have given us their opinion:
- Jennie and Bong from ReapMoneyOnline.com have said:
“A blog is personal and is an extension of our self. So when we talk about being a blogger we also talk about our principles and beliefs.
It’s kinda funny but we can’t talk about money in the context of the make-money-online niche, on which our main blog ReapMoneyOnline falls into, not because we don’t want to but because we don’t know how to.
All of us bloggers blog for various reasons: a cause, a car, a house, for financial independence, or simply for an ego-boost. We blog for our family. We are currently five but we are also members of a larger family, the community. Whatever happens to our community also touches our family and we don’t like what’s happening out there. We NEED to do something to try and change things and make sure our little angels and
their kids and their kids’ kids will live in a happy and safe environment (please, no bullet-proof backpacks and knife-resistant vests for them).
The web offered an opportunity for us to reach out. But why not simply blog or create a website for a cause?
What’s with the make-money-online thingy? Two reasons.
First, we are not well-off and we do not have any extra money. Every single cent we have is already budgeted for life’s basic necessities. The bill for the electricity and broadband connection is already a major drain on our meager financial resources. In addition, we need to pay for domains, hosting, and other web development stuff. That’s why we’re working to get our online presence sustain itself.
Second, we want to get regular guys and gals like us to try and make money online too and run or support their own causes. Ecommerce is such a huge pie and getting even a minuscule slice of it will already
provide a comfortable living. We believe everybody should learn how to get a reasonable share of that money. That will make a lot of people happy and happy folks makes a happy and peaceful community. The kind of community we want our kids to grow up in.
Money for us is only a means to an end, not the ultimate goal in itself but a tool to make something a lot better. ”
- Tarun from TechBanyan.com has said:
“Money means I can pay for the cost of my web hosting. More money means I can buy my food and groceries. Even more money means I could buy my dream car. ”
- Ajay Pathak from ReadersZone.com has said:
“ Money for me is my blog readers satisfaction and their belief in my blog. Nothing more than that”.
- Robert from Flimjo.com has said:
“ As a blogger, money to me is simply a means to an end. I view myself as an entrepreneur, and the attainment of money isn’t for the sole purpose of having a lot of money. Rather, developing streams of passive income is simply for the purpose of creating TIME to devote to the things that make me who I am. A job and a career are not “me.” They are simply “things I do.” Having money means that, instead of focusing on “things I do” (like a job), I can focus on things that make me who I am. That should be the goal for anyone looking to break out of the 9-to-5 mold.
Create wealth for yourself because that wealth will free up your time to focus on the things you’ve always wanted to do.”
That was it, thank you so much for your answers! All of these blogs are interesting and I wish them all the best!
I hope you’ve enjoyed, leave a comment! Don’t forget you can ask a question too and it might get a post and some answers!
How To Profit From Blogsvine
Have you ever heard of it? Blogsvine is very new, so you might have not.
What Is Blogsvine?
“Blogsvine, is a user generated, revenue sharing, blog bookmarking and blog post rating website. Anyone, once registered as a Blogsvine Member can submit their blogs or blog posts for free and earn Adsense Revenue”.
In it’s concept is just like all other bookmarking sites out there. Basically you sign up, and then start submitting articles, which at first will show on the “Upcoming” page. People can vote for them, and the more votes you have, the more chances to be featured on the first page and be one of the “Top Blogs”.
Advantages
The advantages that Blogsvine offers are for me worth it. You can even make money with them if you add your Google adsense ID in the Profile section. I’ve just done that today for the first time, so we’ll se what happens, if you really make any money.
Apart from the financial gains, which I don’t doubt are not that thrilling, I see a big advantage in Blogsvine. Let’s take Digg for example: you add an article there, and wait for someone to notice it. You get 5-10-20 diggs, but still it will fall at the bottom of the page in oblivion. There are so many articles submitted there every single minute, that it’s overwhelming. Unless you already have a well-known blog and a network of hundreds to digg for you, you don’t stand that many chances.
Blogsvine on the other hand is new, so there won’t be many articles submitted. Even if it already has over 800 users, you will see that your article stays on the front page for much longer. Every article I write I submit to Blogsvine. And many of them have been on the front page, it’s easy to get there, all you need is about 6 votes.
I love the slower pace over at Blogsvine, you can actually keep up with the new articles submitted. I really think a smaller community like that can provide greater benefit than a huge one like Digg. At least in the beginning, when you’re just starting your blog.
Disadvantages
Blogsvine is very new, so it has flaws that I’m sure will get corrected as time goes by. It’s not a perfect system by far, but all systems can improve.
One main disadvantage I see is the fact that the votes you get don’t really matter once you’re in the “Top Best” blogs on the front page. It goes downhill from there. For example, if I submitted an article that got 6 votes, it will automatically climb at the top of the best blogs, being the first one, and “pushing” the rest further down the list. It doesn’t matter how many votes the other articles on the list have, mine, that just got 6 votes, quallifies for the “Top Best”, and will become number one. From there, my article will only move down, it will never ever move up again. So if I get let’s say 20 votes, I will not move up, as other new blogs just got on the list and pushed mine down.
This “pushing” happens until your article is not on the front page anymore. So you can see a bunch of new articles with low votes on the front page, and your article that had much more votes will not be there anymore.
I guess this provides a chance for everybody, not just for the highly voted articles. Still, it would be nice to find a way to keep the articles that had a lot of votes up there for longer. Or reward them in a special listing like “Top Blogs Of The Week” or something.
Another thing is that they have a listing on the right sidebar of the top voted blogs, of the front page again, that is. If those blogs are already on the front page, why not list the top voted posts of the week on the sidebar?
Another thing I wish they had is a forum, where all the users could interact and get to know each other better. That would reinforce the sense of community and would allow users to ask questions. They do have the option to PM your friends on Blogsvine, but it’s not the same.
Conclusion
I like Blogsvine and think it’s a great opportunity for new bloggers to get their articles out there. Plus the smaller community gives you a better chance to get noticed and make friends. You’ll just have to try for yourself and decide if you like it!
