Take It With A Grain Of Salt

Today is Memorial Day. Maybe you’re having a picnic, or just relaxing in front of the TV. Or maybe you’re working, like me. Either way, I hope you’re having a great time.

Just for the fun of it, here are some books that might get you thinking, inspire you, provide a fresh perspective. To be taken with a grain of salt:

  • Rich Dad Poor Dad - by Robert Kiyosaki. I’m sure you’ve heard of it, it’s been a best-seller full of controversy. I’ve never read the actuall book, but read about it, and wouldn’t mind owning it. Some have felt inspired by it, and others have said that it doesn’t provide any real useful information other than vague ideas of how to make money. It’s also been said that the author has no idea what he’s talking about and is making money himself from the book and overpriced seminars. Still I think it wouldn’t hurt reading it, as long as you take it with a grain of salt;

  • The Martha Rules - by Martha Steward. It’s a book I read and liked, but also to be taken with a grain of salt. Although written from personal experience, and a lot more concrete than that of Mr. Kiyosaki, it’s still not a recipe for success. But it is a recipe for Martha’s success, that might just inspire you to start on your own path;

  • L’Empire Des Anges (The Empire Of The Angels) - by Bernard Werber. I just loved this book and I highly recommend it, I found more inspiration here than in many other “motivational” books. It’s fiction, so of course take it with a grain of salt, but his Encyclopedia of Relative and Absolute Knowledge is simply wonderful. The symbolism in his books is mind-blowing;

I don’t feel really enthusiastic about anything that claims to show you the path to success. After all, none of the people that wrote those books became rich due to a book they’ve read. But it doesn’t hurt to educate yourself and learn a bit from here and there, take the good parts and try to leave the bad ones out.

Enjoy today and have fun!

In memory of our honored dead.

We remember with compassion those who have died
serving their countries
in the futility of combat
