Have you ever heard of it? Blogsvine is very new, so you might have not.
What Is Blogsvine?
“Blogsvine, is a user generated, revenue sharing, blog bookmarking and blog post rating website. Anyone, once registered as a Blogsvine Member can submit their blogs or blog posts for free and earn Adsense Revenue”.
In it’s concept is just like all other bookmarking sites out there. Basically you sign up, and then start submitting articles, which at first will show on the “Upcoming” page. People can vote for them, and the more votes you have, the more chances to be featured on the first page and be one of the “Top Blogs”.
Advantages
The advantages that Blogsvine offers are for me worth it. You can even make money with them if you add your Google adsense ID in the Profile section. I’ve just done that today for the first time, so we’ll se what happens, if you really make any money.
Apart from the financial gains, which I don’t doubt are not that thrilling, I see a big advantage in Blogsvine. Let’s take Digg for example: you add an article there, and wait for someone to notice it. You get 5-10-20 diggs, but still it will fall at the bottom of the page in oblivion. There are so many articles submitted there every single minute, that it’s overwhelming. Unless you already have a well-known blog and a network of hundreds to digg for you, you don’t stand that many chances.
Blogsvine on the other hand is new, so there won’t be many articles submitted. Even if it already has over 800 users, you will see that your article stays on the front page for much longer. Every article I write I submit to Blogsvine. And many of them have been on the front page, it’s easy to get there, all you need is about 6 votes.
I love the slower pace over at Blogsvine, you can actually keep up with the new articles submitted. I really think a smaller community like that can provide greater benefit than a huge one like Digg. At least in the beginning, when you’re just starting your blog.
Disadvantages
Blogsvine is very new, so it has flaws that I’m sure will get corrected as time goes by. It’s not a perfect system by far, but all systems can improve.
One main disadvantage I see is the fact that the votes you get don’t really matter once you’re in the “Top Best” blogs on the front page. It goes downhill from there. For example, if I submitted an article that got 6 votes, it will automatically climb at the top of the best blogs, being the first one, and “pushing” the rest further down the list. It doesn’t matter how many votes the other articles on the list have, mine, that just got 6 votes, quallifies for the “Top Best”, and will become number one. From there, my article will only move down, it will never ever move up again. So if I get let’s say 20 votes, I will not move up, as other new blogs just got on the list and pushed mine down.
This “pushing” happens until your article is not on the front page anymore. So you can see a bunch of new articles with low votes on the front page, and your article that had much more votes will not be there anymore.
I guess this provides a chance for everybody, not just for the highly voted articles. Still, it would be nice to find a way to keep the articles that had a lot of votes up there for longer. Or reward them in a special listing like “Top Blogs Of The Week” or something.
Another thing is that they have a listing on the right sidebar of the top voted blogs, of the front page again, that is. If those blogs are already on the front page, why not list the top voted posts of the week on the sidebar?
Another thing I wish they had is a forum, where all the users could interact and get to know each other better. That would reinforce the sense of community and would allow users to ask questions. They do have the option to PM your friends on Blogsvine, but it’s not the same.
Conclusion
I like Blogsvine and think it’s a great opportunity for new bloggers to get their articles out there. Plus the smaller community gives you a better chance to get noticed and make friends. You’ll just have to try for yourself and decide if you like it!
