We all know this cliche, money is the root of all evil. Do you think money is evil? The dictionary definition of evil is: “Morally bad or wrong; wicked”. It’s impossible for an object to be evil, since it has no judgement or morals. To be evil is a human trait, that can only be passed on to inanimate objects through association with a human feeling. It’s our nature we’re talking about, and it has nothing to do with the objects that surround us. It’s obvious what I mean, and still many refer to money/the love of money/the wish to make money as evil.
“Money is the root of all evil” could be replaced with ”Money changes people for the worse”. This is untrue, as money is merely an object in the hands of a person, who is free to do whatever he likes with it. The money won’t guide you, you’ll make the decisions based on your character.
The stories I posted (and will post) here of successful, rich people will prove that in the right hands money will not spoil a character, but reinforce it. Actually, George Bernard Shaw said that “Lack of money is the root of all evil” and I agree with that more.
Another “myth” about money is: money doesn’t bring happiness. No, it doesn’t, but it sure sustains it. How many poor happy people have you seen? I haven’t seen any so far. Let’s put it this way, if you can’t feed yourself or your family properly, will you be happy or sad?
Conclusion
The bottom line for me is that you always have to have a purpose for that money. My purpose would be: financial freedom, more free time/more flexible free time, less worries, a healthier lifestyle, opportunity to help others, the satisfaction of knowing you already helped yourself and now you can help other people.
Money is not evil at all, it’s just hard to get, so those that can’t get it will come up with things to put you down ”at least I have love”, “I have no money, but I’m happy”, “money doesn’t matter”, etc. Don’t be ashamed to admit you want money, as long as it’s for a good purpose. We all have friends or family members that like to “advise” us not to worry about money, but if you aren’t concerned about it, how can you ever improve the quality of your life? You have to set goals and have money in mind if you want to stop dreaming and make it happen.
It’s important to make up your mind and decide what you really think about money. Do you think it’s evil? Than forget about ever being rich. Do you think it’s a good thing? Than act accordingly, don’t make negative remarks about it and remind yourself not to get influenced by other people’s negativity.
Thank you for reading my ramblings, please let everybody know in a comment what you think about money. What is money for you? Have you encountered negative people that try to tell you money is not important and put you down when you’re trying to get it?

Money = Evil vs. Money = Happiness…
Do you think money does or doesn’t bring happiness? I think it’s important to make up your mind….
I definitely agree with you that money is NOT the root of all evil. You really hit the nail on the head with this one.
Money makes you more of what you already are. This is one of the truest facets of our lives today. Many people aren’t exactly what I like to call “blue chip” people. They are selfish, mean, and ignorant. It’s unfortunate that people take the “prisoner’s mentality” (always doing what is best for them). I think has grown out of the gaps in our country’s wealth. The world is changing and people aren’t being educated on how to succeed. They see rich people as people who have stood on the shoulders of the poor and push hard to stay up.
This idea is false. While there are people who are like that, the true (and experienced) businessman knows that you have to TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE to continue making money. People know when they are being screwed. So if you do that, eventually it will catch up to you.
To conclude, money ISN’T the root of all evil. BAD people are the root and money just makes it easier to be much much meaner.
Cheers on an excellent post! Keep up the good work!
Brad, thanks for commenting, I love your ideas, and totally agree.
I also think that people who believe money is evil and don’t respect it do so because of a lack of financial education. Most of us aren’t prepared to deal with money, so our ignorance makes us despise and envy rich people.
It’s interesting how many people who win the lottery, for example, waste the money in a short time, all because they aren’t prepared to handle it.
It would be so nice to have financial education classes in school, so kids can learn about managing money, investing, saving, etc. But I guess it’s convenient to have billions of ignorant consumers that don’t appreciate money.
