Hybrids Vs. Fuel-Cell Cars - Grey Vs. Green?

Hello there. Nice to “see” you here. Today we’ll talk about cars. OK, OK, I’ll just get to the subject.

All we knew so far was that a car runs on gas. Period. You buy the (expensive) gas, the engine does the rest, and voila… your car is moving, leaving a trail of toxic emissions behind. Well not any more. Recently, we stepped into the future and away from the dark era of exhaust gases, into a more… grey area.

The Hybrid

Forget about SUV’s. HEV’s are in right now. The Hybrid Electric Vehicle uses the combustion engine to generate electricity by spinning an electrical generator to either recharge the battery or directly feed power to an electric motor that drives the vehicle. The motor is more efficient, meaning smaller size, less gas, fewer emissions.

The first two companies that have successfully sold HEV’s are Honda and Toyota. The HEV’s still pollute, of course, but not as much as conventional cars, so it’s like going “grey” with them.

If you want to go green though, the fuel-cell cars are the answer.

The Fuel-Cell Car

Since hybrid cars have already become the present, the fuel-cell cars are the future.

The fuel-cell car can run on hydrogen and emits no CO2 , but only water and is regarded as the ultimate environmentally responsible vehicle. The Honda FCX Clarity is the most famous hydrogen car, that wants to become commercially available already!

But there are technical obstacles to be overcome before hydrogen cars will be seen on the roads, like the lack of storage points for hydrogen and the unexisting infrastructure.  So for now we’ll have to settle being grey instead of green.

Although to buy a hybrid car will cost you a bit more than a conventional one, experts say there are two out there that will save you money in a few years time: Toyota Prius and Honda Civic. But more and more companies come out with new hybrids, at affordable prices.

So there you have it. If you want to save money on the long run, buy a Prius. You will also help the environment. Something tells me it will be a while until the hydrogen car will be available, and it will probably cost too much at first. But it’s definitely something worth saving for. I for one really hope it will catch up and revolutionize cars.

Maybe in the future we won’t have gas stations anymore, but small solar “farms” that “breed” hydrogen, and our cars will be 100% green, silent, and leaving a trail of nothing but vapors…what a nice thought!

What do you think? Leave me a comment please…Thanks!

Hybrids Vs. Fuel-Cell Cars - Gray Vs. Green?…

Green living - saving money AND the environment? That’s what “green” means = money, frugality and environmentally-friendly.
Why not start with your car?…
